Historical evidence confirms that as early as 1578,  vineyards and olive trees thrived on the Carso hills where the Villa Veneta estate was built; construction started in 1700. The estate is now called Azienda Agricola Castelvecchio and is owned by the Terraneo family. The Castelvecchio estate extends over a plateau 145 meters above sea level.  It is the first Carso rise from the Isonzo di Sagrado and opens up to the Alps to the North and the Adriatic Sea to the South.

The Terraneo family has been dedicated to carrying out an agricultural, agritourism, historical and cultural development project since 1986. Farming traditions has prompted them to cultivate the soil in accordance with the practices of their ancestors: respect of the groundwater, of emissions and of the natural fertilizers that are given to the land.  Sustainability is the heritage that they want to pass to future generations.

They intensify the fertility of the soil through a series of natural and bio-dynamic agronomic practices including helping the roots of the vines go deeper into the limestone rocks to collect the minerals and organic elements that characterize the wines of the Carso.
